Construction expected to last eight weeks

Work on Goderich St. W as part of Phase One of the Highway 8 Connecting Link reconstruction project is set to begin on September 2. The project includes a total of three phases of construction that will span from 2025-2027.

The municipality is working with engineers from B.M. Ross and Associates Ltd. and Omega Contractors Inc. for Phase One of the project to reconstruct a section of Goderich St. W, spanning from Harpurhey Rd. to Sparling St.

Detour routes for pedestrians, vehicles and truck traffic will be in place and marked with signage for the duration of construction.

The planned improvements from Phase One of the project include installations of watermains and services to individual properties, replacement of aging sanitary sewers and structures including sanitary services, minor storm sewer repairs, replacement of existing streetlight poles and luminaires, and a new road base, asphalt, curbing and sidewalks.

On July 9, 2025, the municipality organized a public information center to update residents about the upcoming project and its potential impacts on both residents and businesses.

Phase One of the reconstruction is expected to last approximately eight weeks. There will be some service disruptions during this timeframe, including, road closures and water sanitary service interruptions.

“This project is crucial for improving the infrastructure and ensuring the safety and convenience of our residents,” says Shawn Bromley, Director of Public Works. “We are committed to completing it efficiently and with minimal disruption.”

Residents are encouraged to follow the municipality on Facebook (facebook.com/HuronEast), Instagram (instagram.com/huron_east), and the public engagement website (www.huroneast.com/connectinglink) for the latest information on the project and detour route maps.
