Garbage and Recycling 

Curbside Waste & Recycling pickup in Huron East is provided by Bluewater Recycling Association and Waste Management.

Where do I buy Bag Tags? 

Brussels, Seaforth & Tuckersmith Wards (including Vanastra) require Garbage Bag Tags. Bag Tags cost $2.50 each and every bag placed curbside requires a tag.  Bag Tags can be purchased at the following locations: 

  • Brussels Tags - available at MacDonald Home Hardware, Brussels Pharmacy, Municipal Office 
  • Seaforth/Egmondville/Harpurhey Tags -  available at Beckers, Shell, UPI, GT Mini Mart, Pete's Paper Clip, Municipal Office 
  • Tuckersmith & Vanastra Tags - available at Buckey Joe's General Store, TCC (Kippen), Charlies Variety (Clinton), UPI(Seaforth), Municipal Office

How do I report a missed collection? 

Please report a missed collection directly to your waste/recycling collection provider:

  • Brussels (waste & recycling) - report to  Waste Management online or by phoning 1-888-730-3344
  • Grey/McKillop Wards (waste & recycling) - Report to Bluewater Recycling online or by phoning 1-800-265-9799
  • Seaforth/Egmondville/Harpurhey/Vanastra - report a missed waste collection to Waste Management online or by phoning 1-888-730-3344 OR  report a missed recycling collection to Bluewater Recycling online or by phoning 1-800-265-9799
  • Tuckersmith Ward - Rural Areas including Brucefield (waste & recycling) - report a missed collection to Waste Management online or by phoning 1-888-730-3344 

Yard & Leaf Waste

Yard waste can be composted on your property or you can drop it off at no charge at one of our Compost Sites.  Material accepted includes:  grass & leaf clippings, clean wood, branches, brush and compost. 

  • Brussels Compost Site - 108 Turnberry St.
  • Grey/McKillop - compost accepted at the Walton Landfill - 42966 Blyth Rd.
  • Seaforth/Tuckersmith Compost Site - 79522 Hannah Line (Harpurhey) 
 Special Curbside Leaf Pick up - Brussels, Seaforth/Egmondville/Harpurhey  and Vanastra

Brussels & Seaforth/Egmondville/Harpurhey:  Beginning in late October and ending mid-November leaves raked into windrows at the curb will be collected by the Leaf Sucker as weather permits, per the following schedule: 

  • Monday/Tuesday/Wednesday - Seaforth/Egmondville/Harpuhey Area
  • Thursday/Friday - Brussels 

All leaves collected in paper yard waste bag placed at the curb during this period will be collected as well.  

Vanastra:  Special notices of Spring and Fall yard clean up will be hand delivered to Vanastra residents a week prior to collection dates. Materials must be bundled, tied or in paper yard waste bags at the roadside by 8 am on the designated days.

How do I report a missed collection?

Report a missed collection online at  Bluewater Recycling Association or Waste Management 

How do I get a new Blue Box or a Wheelie Bin?

Blue Box - New residents are welcome to a new Blue box, free of charge, from the Huron East Municipal Office. If your Blue Box has been damaged please bring it with you to the Municipal Office to receive a free replacement. Additional Blue Boxes can be purchased from the Municipal Office for $10.00.

Wheelie Bins - If you require a new Wheelie Bin for Waste or Recycling please submit a request to Bluewater Recycling Association online or by calling 1-800-265-9799. 

Where do I dispose of E-Waste? 

E-Waste is accepted, free of charge, at the designated disposal site for your ward.

Where do I dispose of Hazardous Waste? 

Huron County operates a Household Hazardous Waste depot at the Mid-Huron Transfer Site, 37506A Huron Rd (Hwy 8). The facility is open Tuesdays to Saturdays from 8 am to 1 pm For more information call 519-482-7668. 

Hazardous Waste accepted includes: batteries (household, rechargeable & automotive), household cleaners (ie: bleach, oven cleaner), energy efficient bulbs, fluorescent tubes/bulbs, hair dye, nail polish, nail polish remover, solvents, paints & varnish, caulking, glue, fuels, antifreeze, brake fluid and used motor oil.
