Huron East Council 

The Municipality of Huron East consists of the Mayor, Deputy Mayor, and nine (9) Councillors representing the five (5) wards of Brussels, Grey, McKillop, Seaforth & Tuckersmith. The citizens of the Municipality elect the Members of Council for a four-year term of office.  Having both legislative and executive responsibilities, Council deals with matters that require policy direction, by-laws or by-law amendments and responses or actions to pertinent issues. 

Council follows the rules and guidelines of the Procedural By-law.  The By-law covers matters such as delegation requests, and agenda format.

2022-2026 Huron East Council Members:

Bernie MacLellan, Mayor

Photo of Mayor MacLellanMayor MacLellan was re-elected as Mayor of Huron East during the 2022 Municipal Elections.  Mayor MacLellan has previously served as Mayor of Huron East for the past 3 Terms and prior he was a Councillor with the former Town of Tuckersmith, Deputy Mayor for Huron East and Warden of Huron County.  As Mayor, Mayor MacLellan serves as a County of Huron Councillor.  

The Mayor is ex-officio to all committees of Council and has been appointed to the Administration Committee, Personnel Committee, Water & Sewer Committee, and the Mid-Huron Landfill and Recycling Board

 Alvin McLellan, Deputy Mayor 

Photo of Deputy Mayor McLellanThe Deputy Mayor is appointed by Council at the Inaugural Meeting, which was held on November 15, 2022. 

Deputy Mayor McLellan was elected to the position of Councillor - Grey Ward in the 2022 Municipal Election. 

Deputy Mayor McLellan has been a Huron East Councillor since 2001.  Previously he served as Councillor and Deputy Reeve with the Former Grey Township.  As Deputy Mayor he will now serve as a Councillor the County of Huron.

Deputy Mayor McLellan has been appointed to the Maitland Valley Conservation Authority (along with the Maitland Source Protection Authority Board), Administration Committee, Mount Pleasant Cemetery Board, Ethel Minor Ball Committee and is a Representative to the Bluewater Recycling Association

 Justin Morrison, Councillor - Brussels Ward

photo of Councillor MorrisonCouncillor Morrison was acclaimed to this position in the 2022 Municipal Election.  Although this is the first full Term as a Council member, Councillor Morrison was appointed to fill a vacancy of Council during the 2018-2022 Term in January 2022.

Councillor Morrison has been appointed to the Personnel Committee, Water & Sewer Committee, Economic Development Committee, and the Brussels Community Development Trust.

 Jeff Newell, Councillor - Brussels Ward

Photo of Councillor NewellCouncillor Newell was acclaimed to this position in the 2022 Municipal Election, this first time Councillor Newell has served on Council. 

Councillor Newell has been appointed to the Recreation Advisory Committee, Brussels Community Development Trust, and the Brussels Cemetery Board.

Dianne Diehl, Councillor - Grey Ward

Councillor Diehl has been appointed to the Personnel Committee, Recreation Advisory Committee, Economic Development Committee, Walton Landfill Board, Cranbrook Cemetery Board and the Cranbrook Community Centre Board.

Brenda Dalton, Councillor - McKillop Ward

Councillor Dalton has been appointed to the Recreation Advisory Committee, Walton Landfill Board, Walton Park Board and the Winthrop Park Board.

Gloria Wilbee, Councillor - McKillop Ward

Councillor Wilbee has been appointed to the Heritage Committee, Coalition for Huron Injury Prevention, and the Walton Community Hall Board.

 Robert Fisher, Councillor - Seaforth Ward

Photo of Councillor FisherCouncillor Fisher was acclaimed to this position in the 2022 Municipal Election, Councillor Fisher has served as a Huron East Councillor since 2006.  During the 2018-2022 Term, Councillor Fisher was appointed as Deputy Mayor. 

Councillor Fisher has been appointed to the Administration Committee, Personnel Committee, Seaforth Community Development Trust, and the Seaforth BIA.

John Steffler, Councillor - Seaforth Ward

Raymond Chartrand, Councillor - Tuckersmith Ward

Councillor Chartrand has been appointed to the Administration Committee, Personnel Committee, Water & Sewer Committee, Recreation Advisory Committee, and the Ausable Bayfield Conservation Authority (ABCA).

Larry McGrath, Councillor - Tuckersmith Ward

Photo of Councillor McGrathCouncillor McGrath was acclaimed to this position in the 2022 Municipal Election, Councillor McGrath has served as a Huron East Councillor since 2001.  Prior to this he served as Councillor and Deputy Reeve with the former Tuckersmith Township.

Councillor McGrath has been appointed to the Administration Committee and the Water & Sewer Committee.

Council Meetings

The Huron East Council meets on the first and third Tuesday of each month, with a few exceptions where they only meeting once a month, as indicated on the 2025 Schedule. Council meetings are held in the Council Chambers located in Huron East Town Hall starting at 6:00 p.m.

All meetings are live streamed on the Huron East YouTube Channel. Be sure to subscribe to watch the next meeting live!

Attend a Meeting 
Individuals and groups wishing to appear as a delegation before Council must complete a Council Delegation Request Form. This Request Form, and any materials to be circulated to Council, must be received by the Clerk no later than 5:00 p.m. on the Wednesday preceding the Council meeting. The Request must be delivered by email, fax or in person.
