FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Municipality of Huron East Receives Funding for Critical Infrastructure Project

HURON EAST, ON - The Municipality of Huron East is excited to announce that it has been awarded funding from the Ministry of Transportation's 2025-26 Connecting Links Program. This generous contribution will support the Resurfacing and Reconstruction of Goderich Street West (Highway 8) - Phase 2 in Seaforth.

With a provincial contribution totaling $2,721,035, this project will enhance the safety and efficiency of one of our key transportation routes, benefiting residents, local businesses, and visitors. This improvement is not only crucial for the local community but also plays a vital role in the economic development of Huron East.  The total project will be over $7M and will include upgrades to sanitary sewer and water services, storm water sewers, road surfaces, curbing and sidewalks.

Mayor Bernie MacLellan highlighted the importance of this funding and expressed sincere gratitude, stating, "We are grateful to the Ministry of Transportation for their generous support through the Connecting Links Program. This funding is a testament to our community's needs and will significantly enhance the infrastructure of Goderich Street West. Modernizing our roads is essential for safety and economic growth."

This project will address the deteriorating condition of Goderich Street, last resurfaced in 1993, and will rebuild the inadequate road base to meet current and future traffic demands. Alongside the roadwork, necessary watermain replacements, sanitary sewer upgrades, and storm drainage improvements will enhance the reliability and capacity of our essential services well into the future.

Construction is set to begin in Fall of 2025.

The Municipality is looking forward to commencing this project, with the anticipation that the work will strengthen Huron East's infrastructure, and contribute to long-term prosperity.

Please stay tuned for more updates as the project progresses.
