Huron East – Strategic Action Plan

May 15, 2024

HURON-EAST, ON: On May 7th, 2024, the final draft of the Strategic Action Plan: Working Together For You was adopted by Huron East Council. The Action Plan includes goals, strategic priorities, and measurable actions for the municipality.

"Our new Strategic Action Plan is our roadmap to achieve positive results for our community within this term of Council and beyond. We know that delivering exceptional services depends on spending our time, energy and money on the things that matter most to our residents. Our residents told us how important well-maintained roads, sidewalks, parks, trails, playgrounds, and recreation spaces are to you and your family. You let us know that we need to pursue opportunities for accelerated economic growth and new jobs. And you want us to find ways to grow our community to better support local businesses and refresh our downtown areas" said Mayor Bernie MacLellan.

Four overarching goals were established and defined:

  1. Financial Stability - Demonstrate a commitment to making decisions and taking actions that improve the Municipality's long-term financial position.
  2. Friendly & Welcoming Community - Provide a safe, inclusive, and family-friendly community that we are proud to call "home".
  3. Resilient & Vibrant Economy - Retain and attract economic investment and local jobs.
  4. Working Together - Foster a positive and respectful environment so we can deliver exceptional services to our community.

Each of these goals has a series of outcome-based strategic priorities and measurable actions. Intended to be a practical tool to drive positive action, a Strategic Action Plan Progress Tracker has been created. This Progress Tracker assigns an owner, a timeline, and the percentage complete for each of the 39 measurable actions. This Plan is truly a roadmap for action.

This Strategic Action Plan was informed by over 350 survey respondents, three community focus group sessions, over 25 one-on-one interviews, ongoing staff involvement, two full-day leadership team (Council and management) sessions, and numerous conversations.
