Phase Two of Highway 8 Connecting Link Reconstruction Project to begin the week of April 6

Construction expected to last until September 2026

Work on Goderich St. W as part of Phase Two of the Highway 8 Connecting Link Reconstruction Project is set to begin the week of Monday, April 6, 2026, and is expected to continue until September 2026. During this phase of construction, Goderich St. W will be closed to through traffic between Sparling St. and Main St. The Highway 8 Connecting Link project is a multi‑year initiative consisting of three phases of construction spanning 2024 to 2027, aimed at improving critical municipal infrastructure.

Phase One of the project, which focused on the reconstruction of Goderich St. W between Harpurhey Rd. and Sparling St., was successfully completed in December 2025, representing a major milestone in the overall Connecting Link project.

The Municipality of Huron East is working with engineering consultants from B.M. Ross and Associates Ltd. and Omega Contractors Inc.to complete Phase Two, which will include continued underground infrastructure upgrades and roadway reconstruction along this section of Goderich St. W.

Detour routes for pedestrians, vehicles, and truck traffic will be in place and clearly marked with signage for the duration of construction. As part of the detour plan, a reduced speed limit of 50 km/h will be in effect on the Hydro Line detour route, and police enforcement has been requested throughout the construction period to help ensure the safety of residents, motorists, and construction crews.

Planned improvements for Phase Two will continue addressing aging infrastructure and roadway conditions to support the long‑term safety, reliability, and functionality of this important transportation corridor.

There will be service disruptions throughout Phase Two construction, including road closures and potential water and sanitary service interruptions. The municipality will provide advance notice and ongoing updates to residents and businesses impacted by the work.

Residents and businesses are encouraged to stay informed about upcoming construction dates and project updates by following Huron East on Facebook, Instagram, or by subscribing to the Huron Asks Residents (H.E.A.R) page at www.huroneast.com/connectinglink.
