Nomination period for 2026 Municipal Election to open May 1

Nominations will be accepted until Friday, August 21 at 2:00 p.m.

The Municipality of Huron East is advising residents that the Nomination Period for the 2026 Municipal Election will open on Friday, May 1, 2026 until Friday, August 21, 2026 at 2:00 p.m. Nominations will be accepted for the offices of Mayor and Councillor for the following:

  • Mayor (1)
  • Brussels Ward (2)
  • Grey Ward (2)
  • McKillop Ward (2)
  • Seaforth Ward (2)
  • Tuckersmith Ward (2)

School Board Trustee positions are also open for the applicable school boards serving the Municipality of Huron East.

Nomination packages will be available at Town Hall (72 Main St. S, Seaforth) or online at www.huroneast.com/candidate.

Candidates must make an appointment to file their nomination with the Clerk, submit 25 endorsement signatures, and pay a fee of $100 ($200 for Head of Council).

To be eligible, candidates must be Canadian citizens, at least 18 years of age, eligible to vote, and not legally disqualified from holding municipal office.

“Serving on Council is a meaningful way to contribute to the future of our municipality,” says Clerk, Meaghan McCallum. “We encourage residents who are interested in running for office to connect with the Clerk’s Office early in the process.”
