Municipality of Huron East provisionally adopts Vacant Building By-law

Final approval of the by-law will be considered at the August 11, 2026 Council meeting

The Municipality of Huron East Council provisionally adopted a new Vacant Building By-law on June 23, 2026. Final approval of the by-law will be considered at the August 11, 2026 Council meeting.

The proposed by-law introduces requirements for property owners, including registration and minimum standards for the maintenance of vacant buildings. These measures aim to support safe, well-maintained properties and stable neighbourhoods.

Members of the public may provide written comments to be part of a Council agenda package or by requesting to appear as a delegation at the July 7 or August 11 Council meetings. Delegation requests and/or written comments must be submitted by the Wednesday at 4:30 p.m. prior to the meeting date through the online form at www.huroneast.com/delegation or by contacting the Clerk at clerk@huroneast.com or 519-527-0160 ext. 38.

“The proposed by-law is intended to support safe, well-maintained properties and strong neighbourhoods across Huron East,” says Jessica Rudy, Chief Administrative Officer. “Residents and property owners are encouraged to share their comments with Council before final approval is considered.”

This initiative supports the Municipality’s Strategic Plan, including actions to implement a Vacant Building By-law and strengthen enforcement of property standards.

Additional details about the proposed by-law, including requirements and registration information, are available on the municipal website at www.huroneast.com/vacantbuilding.
