Municipality of Huron East declares Significant Weather Event December 29, 2025
Effective immediately, the Municipality of Huron East has declared a Significant Weather Event in accordance with Ontario Regulation 366/18: Minimum Maintenance Standards for Municipal Highways on Monday, December 29, 2025. This declaration is made due to the current weather conditions and will be in place until further notice.
A Significant Weather Event is defined as an approaching or occurring weather hazard with the potential to pose a significant danger to users of highways within the municipality. This declaration applies to all municipal roads and sidewalks and may impact the timelines for winter maintenance activities such as snow clearing and ice treatment.
This declaration does not indicate that roads are closed. For information on road closures, please refer to Municipal 511.
What this means for residents:
- Road and sidewalk maintenance will continue, but it may take longer than usual to return them to normal conditions.
- Residents are advised to avoid non-essential travel and exercise extreme caution if travel is necessary.
- Please allow extra time and give snowplows and maintenance crews plenty of space to operate safely.
The declaration will remain in effect until the Municipality determines that conditions have improved and normal maintenance standards can resume. Updates will be provided through the Huron East website (www.huroneast.com), Facebook (www.facebook.com/HuronEast) and Instagram (@huron_east).
