Huron East receives Ontario Fire Protection Grant for cancer-prevention equipment
The Municipality of Huron East has received $52,821.07 through the Ontario Fire Protection Grant to support the purchase of critical fire equipment focused on cancer prevention for firefighters.
Funding from the Ontario Solicitor General helped the Huron East Fire Department purchase 11 new sets of personal protective gear, which includes coats and pants, along with two positive pressure ventilation (PPV) fans and gas monitors. These upgrades enhance firefighter safety and reduce exposure to harmful contaminants encountered during emergency responses.
“This funding allows us to invest directly in equipment that protects the long-term health and safety of our firefighters,” says Huron East Fire Chief, Steve Boyer. “Cancer prevention is a critical priority in the fire service, and this grant helps ensure our team has modern, reliable equipment to reduce exposure risks while serving the community.”
The Ontario Fire Protection Grant supports municipalities in strengthening fire protection services by investing in eligible equipment and initiatives that address firefighter health and safety.
