Huron East expands Job and Volunteer Fair with access to free and subsidized training opportunities

New program aims to support local workforce development

The Municipality of Huron East is thrilled to announce a new initiative designed to help residents gain valuable certifications that support employment and volunteer opportunities within the community. The Huron East Skills for Success Program will be launched at the upcoming Huron East Job and Volunteer Fair, happening on Saturday, February 21 from 9:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. (noon) at the Seaforth and District Community Centre (122 Duke St, Seaforth). Eligible residents can register for free or subsidized training opportunities during the event.

Through this program, Huron East residents will have access to several high‑demand training courses, including:

  • Safe Food Handling
  • Smart Serve
  • Standard First Aid and CPR
  • Babysitting Certification
  • Lifeguard Certification (Bronze Medallion, Bronze Cross, National Lifeguard Service, and Swim Instructor levels)

Spots are limited and will be filled on a first‑come, first‑served basis at the Job and Volunteer Fair. Participants who successfully complete their selected course(s) during the Spring or Summer of 2026 will be eligible for up to 100% reimbursement of their training costs.

To receive reimbursement, participants must provide:

  • Name and address
  • Proof of payment
  • Proof of course certification

Additional details about the reimbursement process will be provided upon registration.

“This is an exciting opportunity for residents to gain skills that local employers are actively looking for,” says Economic Development Officer Taralyn Cronin. “Whether someone is looking for part-time work, building toward a career, or hoping to volunteer in the community, these certifications help open doors.”

The training initiative also supports local businesses and organizations by helping develop a pool of qualified, job‑ready individuals.
