Building Inspector (Full Time, Permanent Position)

The Municipality of Huron East is a progressive and growing municipality of approximately 10,000 residents. Located in beautiful Huron County, Huron East is a blend of vibrant urban areas, rural communities, and productive farmland. Located 30 minutes west of Stratford and one hour north of London, Huron East provides an impressive level of services and opportunities for our residents.

The Municipality of Huron East is currently seeking a knowledgeable, motivated, and customer-focused Building Inspector to join our Building Department.

The successful applicant will report to the Chief Building Official and will be responsible for conducting plan reviews, issuing permits, and performing inspections at various stages of construction. The Building & Plumbing Inspector will ensure that buildings, structures, uses, and related systems comply with approved permit documents, plans and specifications, the Building Code Act, the Ontario Building Code, applicable standards, municipal by-laws, and related legislation.

The successful candidate will provide consultative, inspection, and enforcement services to contractors, property owners, residents, and other stakeholders. This position requires a strong understanding of building and plumbing construction, relevant legislation and regulations, and the ability to interpret and apply complex technical requirements.

Qualifications

The successful candidate will possess:

• Post-secondary education in Construction, Engineering, or a related field;
• Certified Building Code Official designation or equivalent and applicable BCIN qualifications;
• A minimum of five (5) years of experience in building inspection or building services;
• Strong knowledge of the Ontario Building Code, Building Code Act, applicable legislation, regulations, and municipal by-laws;
• Excellent communication, customer service, organizational, problem-solving, and computer skills;
• The ability to interpret technical information, exercise sound judgment, and work independently;
• A valid Class G Driver's Licence with a clean driver's abstract; and
• The ability to maintain a clear Criminal Reference Check.
